DESCRIPTION

The 800 K Interface mounts on the cooler and contains an internal mechanical thermal switch which protects the cold end from excessive heat while experiments are carried out at elevated temperatures. The interface mounts between the cryostat cold end sample mount and the sample holder allowing compatibility in upgrading existing systems or for use with new systems.

An electrical thermal switch opens the heater circuit to protect the cold end in the event that the cooler is inavertantly switched off and begins to overheat.  Heaters and temperature sensors are integrated together to provide accurate temperature monitoring and control to 800 K.

Mechanical Loading
The interface will support a maximum of 1.0 Kg (2.2 lb) or a moment of 0.33 N-m (3.0 in-lb) applied at the sample mount thread.

Instrumentation
Calibrated sensors can be provided to cover the complete temerature range from the cryostat minimum temperature to 800K with accuracy of +/- 200mK (+/- 50mK below 480K).   Contact ARS, Inc. for more information on instrumentation packages..

 

800K Iterface - Affect on Cold End Length

Closed cycle cold ends constructed for use with laboratory shrouds and radiation shields are normally supplied with a copper instrumentation tip, which can be removed and replaced by high temperature interfaces.  Use the following table as a guidline.  Contact ARS, Inc. for help in verifying dimensions.

With instrumentation tip in place, add 1.44 inch (36.6 mm) to cryostat second stage length.

This cryostat has no instrumentation tip - add 1.44 inch (36.6 mm) to cryostat second stage length.
LT-3-110
open cycle
Add 1.44 inch (36.6 mm) to minimum cryostat length - minimum length becomes 6.94 inch (176 mm).
LT-3B
Add 1.44 inch (36.6 mm) to minimum cryostat length - minimum length becomes 5.94 inch (151 mm).  Requires 1.50 inch (38.1 mm) OD radiation shield.
