Description
Lake Shore's Model 340 Temperature Controller is a dual input, dual proportional-integral-derivative (PID) control loop temperature controller that supports diodes, negative temperature coefficient (NTC), and positive temperature coefficient (PTC) RTD sensors. Option cards allow the user to configure the Model 340 for use with one capacitance sensor, two thermocouples, or additional diode/RTD sensor inputs. With measurement resolution and control stability to as low as 0.1 mK and ±0.2 mK, respectively, at 4.2 K with appropriate system design and sensors, the Model 340 Temperature Controller offers high performance across the 0.3 to more than 1000 K temperature range and in difficult sensing conditions, including ionizing radiation and magnetic fields.
The Model 340 has two standard temperature sensor inputs which are front panel configurable for:

Sensor

Temperature Range

Silicon diodes

1.4 K to 475 K

GaAIAs diodes

1.4 K to 500 K

Cernox™

0.3 K to 325 K

Platinum Resistors

14 K to 873 K

Rhodium-iron Resistors

1K to 800 K

Carbon-glass Resistors

1.4 K to 325 K

Germanium Resistors

0.3 K to 100 K

Configuration by sensor type allows the controller to automatically set excitation and signal gain or the user can select the excitation and signal gain (range).
To Lake Shore, ease of control means ease of configuration. The Model 340 provides the user with single-key setting of:
  • Setpoint
  • Heater Range
  • Heater Off
  • Gain (Proportional)
  • Reset (Integral)
  • Rate (Derivative)
  • Loop 1 / Loop 2
Our liquid crystal display (LCD) gives you the ability to configure how results are presented. Any measurement or output can be readily displayed. Our graphical display provides you the ability to configure how results are presented. The display can be set to display one to eight different temperatures simultaneously. The display format can also be configured to display Math functions such as: Minimum, Maximum, Max Deviation, and Mean of the input readings. Besides the main display screen, there are a number of setup screens: Curve Entry, Input Setup, Display Format, SoftCal™, Interface setup and Scan Setup.
The experienced temperature controller user can quickly set key functions without navigating through time consuming menus. For the first time user, a Help key for each function and parameter lets you learn by doing, instead of reading the manual. The 32-bit microprocessor-controlled Model 340 effortlessly creates and stabilizes the experimental conditions you select. And, PC card technology makes it easy to replicate conditions from one day to the next...from one system to another.
