DMX-19 Exchange Gas Cryostat The DMX-19 is a unique gas exchange cryostat
which combines cryogen-free operation with proven Displex closed cycle refrigeration for
ease of sample change and fast sample cool down. Some common uses include resistivity,
critical current, hall effect, and vibrating sample magnetometry. |

| PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION |
| Refrigeration for the DMX-19 is provided by a closed cycle Displex® DE-202 expander which is thermally connected to the sample well. Helium gas is fed into the sample well and stratifies with the coldest gas in the sample area. This gas provides the necessary environment for characterization of materials from 13 K to 350 K. Samples up to 1/2 inch (12.7 mm) diameter by 6 inch (152 mm) long are mounted on a non-magnetic sample holder and inserted into the cold sample well through an air lock valve. Samples can be changed easily and cooled quickly because the insulation vacuum inside the vacuum shroud is not disturbed. Sample well temperature is controlled by a temperature sensor and resistance heater on the expander cold tip. Another sensor may be mounted in the sample area. |
