Sales Engineer
Career Description:
Advanced Research Systems sells scientific equipment (cryostats) to universities and government labs, primarily in physics, materials science, and electrical engineering departments. We are seeking a technically skilled and customer-focused Sales Engineer to serve as a bridge between our customers and internal engineering and production teams. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in physics or mechanical engineering, along with hands-on laboratory and experimental experience. In this role, you will work with customers to understand their technical requirements, demonstrate product capabilities, provide technical guidance, develop tailored solutions, and support the sales process from the initial inquiry through delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
Partner with the sales team to understand customer requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
Conduct product demonstrations, technical presentations, and hands-on lab evaluations for prospective customers.
Provide pre-sales technical support, including responding to RFPs/RFQs and preparing technical proposals.
Collaborate with engineering, product management, and R&D teams to relay customer feedback for product development.
Troubleshoot technical issues raised by customers during evaluation or post-sale implementation.
Develop technical documentation, application notes, and best practice guides to support the sales process.
Stay current on industry trends, competitive products, and emerging technologies relevant to the customer base.
Travel to customer sites, trade shows, and conferences as needed to support sales efforts.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Physics, or a closely related technical field.
1–5 years of relevant experience in a lab, R&D, applications engineering, or technical sales role.
Hands-on laboratory experience, including designing and executing experiments and interpreting experimental data.
Solid grasp of mechanical engineering and/or physics fundamentals (e.g., materials, thermodynamics, mechanics, instrumentation).
Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to varied audiences.
Comfortable working directly with customers, including on-site visits and live demonstrations.
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment.
Willingness to travel.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, Physics, or related discipline.
Prior experience in sales engineering, applications engineering, or field engineering role.
Familiarity with various characterization techniques, laboratory instrumentation,
Experience with CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce) and technical proposal development.
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability
Organized, self-motivated work style
Materials Research Technology is a plus
Digital Media Marketing knowledge
