Cryostats for Special Applications
With over 25 years of experience, ARS has purpose-developed many cryostats for specific applications in physics, chemistry, material science and other research areas.

X-3 Parahydrogen Generator
Our Parahydrogen Generator is used for the conversion of orthohydrogen to parahydrogen at low temperature using a Solvay closed cycle cryocooler, delivering up to 99% conversion in flowrates up to 4 standard liters per minute and pressures up to 750 PSI [50 bar].
Hydrogen gas flows through a capillary thermalized to 40 Kelvin on the closed-cycle cryocooler’s first cooling stage to an adsorber canister cooled further by the cryocooler’s second stage. Converted parahydrogen exits the cryostat through another capillary for use in hyperpolarized NMR and MRI applications.
X-19-NGA Noble Gas Analysis
The X-19 NGA is a Cryogenic Gas Trap built upon a closed cycle cryocooler. The cryocooler cools a canister containing an adsorber element, interfacing to a Mass Spectrometer line via a Compression Fitting or 1.33” [DN16CF] Conflat Flange.
Its fully stainless-steel, welded construction featuring Conflat flanges permits UHV conditions.
X-2 Diffraction
Our X-2 cryostats feature our Solvay closed cycle cryocooler with a goniometer-ready laboratory interface designed for X-Ray Diffraction.
At the sample location, a 190° Kapton or Mylar window provides optical access. The lightweight cryocooler is built with swept-back helium hose connections and feedthrough ports to allow excellent clearance for rotational movement.
