Senior Mechanical Engineer

Career Description
Advanced Research Systems (ARS), a leading manufacturer of cryogenic laboratory equipment, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with at least 5 years of design engineering experience, working closely with procurement and manufacturing to deliver class-leading products.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop cryogenic systems, components, and assemblies from concept to approval of the Bills of Material.

  • Utilize SolidWorks as the primary modeling tool when designing custom orders.

  • Create designs with cost, function, safety, and ease of use in mind.

  • Create complete and accurate 3D models, and 2D drawings.

  • Construct and audit drawings and bills of material completed by mechanical designers.

  • Conduct thorough analysis and testing of cryostat designs to ensure ideal thermal  performance, mechanical performance, and reliability.

  • Regularly communicate and work closely with the procurement team and factory manager to understand the needs and requirements of  manufacturing.

  • Maintain an external view of cryogenic instrument trends and the best practices associated with designing low temperature devices.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Master’s degree preferred.

  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on design engineering and working closely with the manufacturing environment.

  • Fluency in SolidWorks, with a focus on good modelling practices, and  appropriate use of GD&T.

  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, heat transfer, vibration, and machining practices.

  • Prior experience with ultra-low temperature applications a plus.

  • Experience with simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL) or laser vibrometry a plus.

  • Effective communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.

  • Proven track record of successfully leading projects from concept to delivery in a horizontal organization.
